The Hitcher (1986) 4k restoration review

There are films that when first released are panned and dismissed. But as the years go by these films gain an audience and even become cult classics. In 1986 there was a horror film that was not well received but over the years it has become so popular, that film is The Hitcher!

Now in time for Halloween 2024 the cult classic The Hitcher has been restored in 4K and released on Blu-ray and 4K depending on which you would like to add to your collection.

Synopsis: A young man Jim Halsey (C. Thomas Howell) stops one rainy evening on the highway to pick up a hitchhiker. Little does he know that decision will change his life! The mysterious hitcher, (Rutger Hauer), is a relentless slaughterer, who preys on those who invite him into their lives.

The Hitcher for 1980s is something of a miraculous achievement of a film. The car chases, the car and helicopter crashes, the kills are spectacular. C. Thomas Howell is amazing. He plays Jim Hasley as a deer in headlights. And Rutger Hauer is something out of a real-life nightmare. He is chilling and creepy. And then there is a young Jennifer Jason Leigh playing the small-town waitress to the tee. The Hitcher is a gruesome yet entertaining horror adventure!

The Hitcher has been restored in 4K and
transferred in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. There are two audio options an English Dolby Atmos and an English Dolby 2.0 Stereo. Finally, there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

If you go looking for this film on streaming services, you are going to be royally disappointed. The quality of the movie streaming is pretty bad to say the least. This new 4K restoration brings a real clarity to the film. The picture feature a nice amount of the film grain. It has not bee scrubbed away, thankfully. This restoration is clean with no signs of damage and the audio is clear as a bell. But a tremendous looking copy of the film is not all that was included on this Bu-ray! take a look at what is included!
