Night of the Blood Beast /Attack of the Giant Leeches (Film Masters Blu-ray Review)

Film Masters have been rescuing public domain films and restoring them in 4K giving them new life on Blu-ray! I have been thoroughly impressed with these releases.

Some of the great Film Master Blu-rays for Halloween season have been, Tormented, The Terror and Little Shop of Horrors, Creature with the Blue hand and The Web of the Spider, The Giant Gila Monster and The Killer ShrewsThe Devil's Partner and The Creature from the Haunted Sea and Door to Door Maniac and Right hand of the Devil.

The latest Film Masters Blu-ray release brings us a double feature of B horror movies from director Bernard Kowalski. Let's take a look at the two films included in this 2-disc Blu-ray set.

Our Rating System:
**** = Don’t Miss it!
*** = Worth a look.
** = An OK way to spend an evening.
* = You haven’t missed anything.

Night of the Blood Beast (1958)
 An astronaut is killed on reentry to Earth, but his body is seeded with rapidly gestating aliens. **

Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959) A backwoods game warden and a local doctor discover that giant leeches are responsible for disappearances and deaths in a local swamp. **

I have always enjoyed these 50s sci-fi horror films. They are not the gory blood fest that we see nowadays. These 50s horror movies while not tremendous pieces of cinema, are very fun sci-fi horror goodies. You will have tons of fun with the cheesy effects and the over acting!

Both films have been restored, Blood Beast in 4k and Giant Leeches in HD! These films have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1, with Night of the Blood Beast also available with a TV aspect ratio of 1.37:1. Discs are region free and include English SDH. Audio is DTS-HD/Dolby AC3s.

I am literally blown away at how amazing Night of the Blood Beast looks on Blu-ray. This new 4K restoration has really done remarkable things for the picture! You no doubt have seen this film online or on DVD or VHS Tape. You have not seen this film till you see it now! It is gorgeous! Even Attack of the Giant Leeches looks great in HD! But these two films are not all that is included in this Blu-ray set! Take a look at the amazing bonus features included.

* Full commentary tracks by Tom Weaver and 'The Weaver Players' for both films
* Full color inserted booklet with original essay by Tom Weaver
* Recut trailers using archival film elements
* Comparison videos showing the impact of restoration
* 8mm version of Night of the Blood Beast
* Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes of The Night of the Blood Beast and Attack of the Giant Leeches
* Made for TV: Bernard Kowalski as a Director. A Ballyhoo Motion Pictures featurette.
* Slideshows

Between the absolutely stunning looking restorations and the addition of the great bonus features. This is a great B horror movie double feature release. I love that Film masters included  two versions (theatrical and TV) of these films. Also to included the fun Mystery Science 3000 episodes and C. Cortney Joyner always does a great job dropping so much knowledge on us in the Ballyhoo Motion Picture featurettes.

I have never been disappointed by a Film Masters Blu-ray release, and this one has not disappointed either. Granted Night of the Blood Beast and Attack of the Giant Leeches are not great horror films, but this Blu-ray release is a great release.

If you enjoy the cheezy goodness of a B Horror film this new Film Masters Blu-ray Double Feature release is going to satisfy your need for cheese. This release is available on Blu-ray or DVD! Head over to MVD Shop and order your copy of the
Blu-ray or DVD. Or you can order on Amazon!
