The Fairly Oddparents Season 1 (2001) DVD Review

Nickelodeon is responsible for some of the best cartoons in TV history. Who didn't love Rugrats, Doug, Ren and Stimpy, Hey Arnold, Angry Beavers, CatDog and SpongeBob SquarePants.

On March 30, 2001 another cartoon would debut. It would prove to be extremely popular. This cartoon series would go on an amazing 10 season run with a total of 172 (294 segments). Well now 23 years after its television debut, Viacom is re-releasing the first season on DVD.

Synopsis: Timmy Turner, a 10-year-old boy, has had it with his babysitter! He summons his fairy godparents who have the power to grant him wishes. Some of the wishes are really helpful, others don't work out so well. Timmy's godparents Wanda and Cosmo have ideas of their own and always lead Timmy on interesting adventures.

Sadly, when this show was airing, I was watching Justice League, Batman Beyond and Teen Titans. So, this show just kind of passed me by. This release was my first time watching The Fairly Oddparents. So, I didn't have any nostalgic feelings towards this series. But watching this series was a pleasure. The stories are crazy and loads of fun.

All ten episodes of season 1 have been transferred to 2 DVD discs. They are presented in their original full screen format. Thankfully there is no stretching of the pictures to make them fit widescreen TVs. The audio is a Dolby Digital 2.0. And there is the option for English subtitles. There is no bonus features found on this release.

Disc 1: The Big Problem! / Power Mad! / Spaced Out / Transparents! / Chin Up! / Dog's Day Afternoon

Disc 2: A Wish Too Far / Tiny Timmy! / Father Time! / Apartnership! / Dream Goat! / The Same Game

These episodes have been transferred on 2 Made-On-Demand DVD discs. The animation looks and sound crisp and clean with no signs of damage or digital artifacts. As I have stated before, in other reviews, I wish these were pressed discs, as pressed disc has a longer life expectancy than Made-On-Demand. But if you take good care of these discs, they should give you many years of enjoyment.

If you love Nickelodeon cartoons as much as I do, well, The Fairly Oddparents need to be ion your collection. Get your copy of the complete first season at MovieZyn.com today!
