When you think of movies with talking creatures many films come to mind. Ratatouille, Madagascar, Shrek, Rango, Chronicle of Narnia, Ice Age, Antz, The Lion King, Aristocats, Stuart Little, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Never Ending Story, these are just some of the films.
But probably a film that is on nobody's list is 1996's Joe's Apartment, featuring singing, dancing and joking cockroaches. Joe's Apartment is a feature film is based on an MTV short film written and directed by John Payson. Now it is on Blu-ray thanks to the fine folks at Warner Archive!
Fresh off the bus from Iowa, Joe (Jerry O'Connell) is just trying to make it in New York, but he's got no job, no girl and no place to live. But life changes for Joe as he finds an apartment, along with 50,000 singing, dancing, wisecracking cockroaches. What bugs Joe is how these cockamamie cucarachas meddle with his romance with the lovely Lily. But he'll eye the world of creepy-crawlies differently when the tiny bugsters turn from hindering to helping - like it or not!
Some people would look at Joe's Apartment and would wonder why Warner Archive choose to release this under their label. This is far from a classic! But this is a fun film that has gained a cult status over the years.
Joe's Apartment is an off the wall crazy film, but a film that is so much fun to watch. The film is rated PG-13 so there is some profanity, sexual jokes and violence. But the gunplay and other violent things are played for laughs so it is not taken seriously.
Joe’s Apartment arrives on Blu-ray in 1080p in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The master sourced from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This new 4K restoration and transfer to Blu-ray is amazing! There are no signs of damage to this print that I could see, and it looks stunning! The colors are bright and vibrant, the picture is crisp and clean, and the audio is clear as a bell! Watching Joe's Apartment on this Blu-ray is a pleasure! But a remarkable looking restoration is not all that this Blu-ray has going for it! There is some cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included!
