Unearthed Films have been releasing some really rare and really awesome films from all different kinds of genres. I really enjoyed the Blu-ray releases of Calamity of Snakes, The Sound of Summer, and The Grand Tour.
But Unearthed Films went to the extreme dark and demented, with a trilogy of releases from the mind of Fred Vogel. With not one, not two but three Blu-ray releases, complete with tons of bonus features.
August Underground was the first in the gruesome trilogy. The film follows two men playing around with a video camera, but things quickly go off the rails and into an ultra-realistic torture sequence where the unidentified psychopaths tape their exploits as they torment and violate a woman tied to a chair.

Now Fred Vogel wanted to make these films like found footage films, so the films feature shaky camera, unfocused picture and the video quality is suspect to say the least. I must say for me, the subject matter of these films was extremely hard to sit through. Violence, nudity and torture. The whole experience was a bit much for me.
Now even though I could not find a lot of joy in these films, I know there are people that will enjoy them. So that is why Unearthed Films did the best to make these films look as good as they do. But in all honesty, they still look a bit rough, but that is because it was made rough to begin with so there is only so much you can do, when the source material is what it is!
For fans of the August Underground films these Blu-rays are filled with bonus features, as you can see above. So, if you would like to see this gruesome and horrific trilogy you can order these Blu-rays today. Head over to Amazon and order, August Underground, Mordum and Penance.
Now if you are a of Fred Vogel's trilogy. You may want to hold off on purchasing these Blu-rays as Unearthed Films have announced a special August Underground Trilogy Box Set. And what makes this so much better is there will be included in this box set an extra disc or 2 of Toe Tag archive material and alternate cuts.
This Box set release date is to be announced so keep your eyes open to Unearthed Films.
