Blood Feast (2016) 4K Ultra HD Review

In 1963 H.G. Lewis brought the world his notorious gory classic Blood Feast! No doubt this film inspired many filmmakers over the years to make their own horror film. Well, in 2016 Marcel Walz brought Blood Feast into this generation with his remake of the classic.

Now the good folks at Synapse Films are giving this new splatter feature a chance to live forever on physical media, with their release of the 4K Ultra HD! Which would make a great addition to the original in anyone's collection.

Fuad Ramses and his family have moved from the United States to France, where they run an American-themed diner. Since business is not going well, Fuad also works the graveyard shift in a museum of ancient Egyptian culture. During these long nights, he is repeatedly drawn to a statue representing the seductive goddess, Ishtar. As his fascination with Ishtar grows, she begins speaking to him in visions. One night, Fuad succumbs to her deadly charms and begins a new life of murder and cannibalism. He prepares a lavish feast for Ishtar dripping with the blood, organs and intestines of his victims. As the bodies pile up, Fuad slips further into madness until no one... not even his wife and daughter... is safe from the desires of the bloodthirsty goddess!

Rarely if ever are remakes better than the original. And let's be honest Marcel Walz's film is not better than the original! But Walz's version serves as more of a love letter to Herschell Gordon Lewis' 1963 cult classic than a remake.

Marcel Walz masterfully directed this film. The acting is pretty good. We see Robert Rusler (Shag), Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Sophie Monk (Click). Also look for an appearance by Herschell Gordon Lewis as Professor Lou Hershell.

It should be noted that this film is extremely gory! The gore in this can be very hard to sit through at times. There is also a large amount of profanity and some sexual content and nudity. So viewer beware! If any of these offends you, you might want to skip this one.

Blood Feast has been transferred to 4K Ultra HD in 2160p and presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The soundtrack is an English DTS-HD MA 5.1 Stereo Surround. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Blood Feast looks simply stunning in 4K! The picture quality is crisp and clean. The colors are vibrant, and blood runs bright red. The audio is clear. Horror hounds will be pleased with this transfer. But that is not all the is included in this 4K. Take a look at the bonus features included on this disc.
