In the late 1980s into the 1990s producer and director Bret McCormick was helping churn out b movies like butter. One of those films that he produced and directed was the horror film The Abomination, on Blu-ray from Visual Vengeance.
Visual Vengeance have been giving B-movie fans the physical media releases of the films they love. And now just in time for Halloween 2023, Visual Vengeance is bringing us the campy horror cult classic Repligator on deluxe Blu-ray.
At a top-secret military facility, a group of scientists and army brass on "The Replicator Project". The experiment quickly goes awry when it turs all the male soldiers into gorgeous, scantily clad nymphets, who then morph into alligators when they reach the peak of sexual excitement.
Repligator is a completely crazy off the wall film, that admittedly makes little sense. But filmmaker Bret McCormick does seem to care. He was intent on making one of the craziest sci-fi B-Movie ever... and he succeeded.
Bret McCormick was able to get in his film Gunnar Hansen, who played Leatherface in Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. He also got scream queen Brinke Stevens (The Slumber Party Massacre, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama) to be in this film. Which is pretty impressive.
The acting is pretty laughable, and the special effect are pretty bad as well. But as you probably know there is a huge fanbase for these laughable sci-fi horror films. Let's face is SyFy network has made a network more or less based on these type of movies.... yes, we are looking at you Sharknado! So, we know some people will be so ready for this release!
Visual Vengeance has transferred Repligator to Blu-ray in 1080p in its original full screen format (1.33:1) The soundtrack in a Master Audio 2.0. This transfer is featuring a new director-supervised SD master from original master tapes. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
All in all for a film that was shot on tape the transfer to Blu-ray looks about as good as it possibly can. Scanning and restorations can only go so far. But an uptick to Blu-ray for this film is not all that is in this release. Visual Vengence added some cool bonus features as well. Take a look at what is included.

As you can see Visual Vengeance put together a Blu-ray release that fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 would love. But I can't recommend this release for the average sci-fi film fan. It is strictly for the fans of bad campy sci-fi films. Serious sci-fi horror fans need not apply!
Now let's be honest here this film is not going to be on most people's list. In fact, most movie fans will reject this film entirely. But if you love campy horror movies Repligator is probably one of the films you would love to see. And if that is the case, I highly recommend the Visual Vengeance Blu-ray. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today.
Out of 4 Film Reels (4 being the best) the Repligator Blu-ray receives....
