Cocaine Bear (2023) 4k UltraHD Review

Cocaine Bear 4k UltraHD cover
When you are looking for fun off the wall creature features most think Tremors or films like Sharknado. Well, director Elizabeth Banks thought to bring the world another creature feature. But this one wouldn't be monster sharks, or atomic giant lizards. It would be a bear, but not just any bear. This would be a bear on a trippy high.

Now Universal Pictures are releasing this crazy fun feature on 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray and Digital. And it is all being released just in time for Halloween 2023. So, you can have a trippy fun Halloween Party with Cocaine Bear.

Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow and blood.

It is hard to believe that this film is based on a true story. Okay very loosely based, but still based on a true story. When you hear the title, you realize what you are in for here. This is not your typical horror film. This is a fun trippy romp through the woods with a high bear. There is good character development. There are some sexual innuendos, a fair amount of violent and extremely gory scenes. And the profanity is severe. And finally, of course there is drug references.

The film has been transferred to both 4K UltraHD and Blu-ray discs for this release. The is presented in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The audio soundtrack is on Blu-ray a DTS-HD MA 5.1 on the 4K it is a Dolby Atmos 7.1. There is also English Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. But a nice looking 4K transfer is not all that is included in this set. Talke a look at the bonus features added in this set.

* Alternate Ending

* Gag Reel

* Deleted & Extended Scenes

* All Roads Lead to Cokey: The Making of Cocaine Bear

* Unbearable Bloodbath: Dissecting the Kills

* Doing Lines

* Feature Commentary with Director/Producer Elizabeth Banks and Producer Max Handelman

Now in addition to a beautiful looking 4K transfer. And the cool bonus feature, Universal Pictures has also added a digital copy of this 4K UltraHD film that you can redeem on VUDU/ Fandango, Movies Anywhere or Youtube. It is so cool to have a digital copy that you can have with you anywhere you go!

Cocaine Bear is not a good film, it's a crazy off the wall film. It's a film that friends get together and laugh at the crazy antics. The film is not going to change the world or make people think differently. It's just a film for entertainment. If you can look past the insanity of the plot, you might have fun with this one. But just be aware of all the objectional material found therein.
