Howard Hawks was an amazing producer and director. During his illustrious career he produced and directed countless classic films including, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Thing from Another World, The Big Sleep, Bringing up baby, Sargent York and To Have and Have not.
Now in 1964 Howard Hawks joined forces with a big time Hollywood heartthrob Rock Hudson to bring the world a hilarious romantic comedy entitled Man's Favorite Sport. Now the good folks at Kino Lorber have released this comedy classic on Blu-ray.
Roger Willoughby (Rock Hudson) is the leading expert on fishing. He has written the fisherman's 'bible'. It is loved by his customers in the sporting goods department at Abercrombie and Fitch, where he works. There's only one problem however: he's never been fishing in his life. Now the store owner enters him in a fishing contest. What is a man to do? With the help of press agent Abigail Page (Paula Prentiss) he may just get away with no one knowing the truth.
I always loved seeing Rock Hudson alongside Doris Day in their comedies. This was my first time watching this film and Rock Hudson and Paula Prentiss bring that same romantic fun to this film. And the support cast is stellar as well. Now the film runs 2 hours in length, but you would never now it as the film is fast-paced and never gives you a chance to get bored.
Kino Lorber has transferred this comedy classic on Blu-ray in 1080p in it's original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The soundtrack is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This transfer is truly something special. There is no signs of damage to this print whatsoever. The colors are simply gorgeous and the great outdoors look absolutely amazing in HD. When you are watching this film you don't feel like you are watching a film you feel like your right there. It is that impressive and the crystal clear of a print.
Now a tremendous copy of this film is not all that is included in this release. There is also the Theatrical trailer and a very good audio commentary featuring Filmmaker/Historian Michael Schlesinger with select remarks by the film's co-star Paula Prentiss and actor/director Richard Benjamin.
