Film fans probably remember the comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin. But what some may not know is that film is actually a remake of an earlier film.
In 1964 David Niven, Marlon Brando and Shirley Jones joined forces to bring film fans a comedy film like that hadn't seen before in Bedtime Story. Now the good folks at Kino Lorber under the division of KL Studio Classics are releasing this film on Blu-ray.
Freddy Benson (Brando) and Lawrence Jameson (Niven) swindle women out of their money, but in their own unique ways. Upon their first meeting, each of the men thinks that other as a threat. Upon the arrival of vacationing soap heiress Janet Walker (Jones), the two sweet-talking scoundrels compete to trick her out of both her clothes and her fortune.
Bedtime Story was written by Stanley Shapiro and Paul Henning together they wrote another classic comedy Lover Come Back starring Rock Hudson, Doris Day and Tony Randall. It was also directed by Ralph Levy known for directing the Doris Day film Do Not Disturb. Together these writers and director created an amazing story that still holds up almost 60 years later.
I found myself laughing scene after scene. While Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was a remake of this film, this one is much different and so you will find yourself enjoying this film just as much if not more than the remake. David Niven and Marlon Brando are perfect together than Shirley Jones is just icing on the double layer cake of hilarity.
Bedtime Story has been transferred to Blu-ray from a brand new 2K master. This transfer is in 1080p in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. This new master looks so amazing. There is no signs of damage to the print. The film looks remarkable on Blu-ray.

To say I enjoyed this film would be an understatement. I had such a good time watching this one I going to re-watch this one again and again. Kino Lorber did such a great job with this Blu-ray, I can not recommend this one enough for classic comedy fans.
