Back in the 80s and 90s people would go to their local video store and rent slasher films for a bloody night of scary fun. Sadly Blockbuster and the video stores are more or less gone. But thankfully home video is still a viable option for film fans to enjoy there entertainment.
Well, Arrow Video is among the best companies bringing film fans deluxe films to Blu-ray. The latest offering in a new slasher film entitled The Stylist from Writer/Director Jill Gervargizian.
The film follows hair stylist Claire (Najarra Townsend) who is great at her job, but finds herself envious of her clients who's beautiful hair is something she wishes she had. When one of the clients makes a very cruel statement "I guess we all what what we don't have." it send Claire down a dark path.
The story was originally a short film, Jill really fleshed out the story to an intriguing tale of how jealousy can lead one down dangerous paths. We must learn to love who we are, we were made that way for a purpose. Everyone is very believable in the roles and Jill does a great job bringing her vision to life on film.
Now some might call this a typical slasher film, but I consider it a very interesting take on the slasher genre. What Jaws did for going to the beach, and Psycho did for taking a shower. I can see the stylist doing for going to the hair dresser. After all when you sit in the chair to have your hair done, you are vulnerable. Think about it.
The film is transferred in 1080p and in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. The film looks and sounds amazing on Blu-ray. There is also English subtitles for thr deaf and hard of hearing. That is always a really nice bonus. Bust as with all Arrow releases, they don't stop there they load up the discs with awesome bonuses. Take a look what is included in this release.
