The Nude Bomb

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

I remember the first time a saw Maxwell Smart walking down that long hallway and descending from the phone booth. I was instantly hooked with the fun adventures of Agent 86. Get Smart ran for a successful 5 seasons. Get Smart was known for spoofing all the spy films like James Bond. They did an amazing job making an ultra-fun show!

Ever since the show ended people wanted more of Maxwell Smart. So in 1980 producers decided to dust off the spy weaponry and get ready for another adventure entitled 'The Nude Bomb'. The film has become sort of a cult classic. I didn't think this film  many would andever get a Blu-ray release! Well, surprise Kino Lorber has done just that.

Maxwell Smart (Don Adams) retired from the secret agent business many years ago, but finds the world needs his services again. KAOS has a 'horrible' plot underway, they plan to set off a bomb that will disintegrate all clothing. The chief (Dana Elcar) of the PITS agency reenlists Smart to keep KAOS from detonating those bombs.

The film is as ridiculous as it sounds. But then again the series was kind of ridiculous, but that was the fun of it. The off the wall antics of Get Smart are in here, But one of the major problems is there is no Agent 99. I wish Barbara Feldon would have been brought back for this one.

As for the Blu-ray release. First off the film has been transferred in 1.85:1 in the widescreen format in 1920x1080p. The audio is DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. The Blu-ray transfer looks so much better than the DVD version. There is some slight specks and dirt in the pictures nothing that will take away from your viewing this film. I really am impressed with this transfer.

Now as awesome as it is to get the full movie on Blu-ray. Kino Lorber goes above and beyond and loads up this Blu-ray with bonus features. Check these special features:

-Audio Commentary by Sledge Hammer! Creator Alan Spencer
-Audio Commentary by Film Historian and Film Critic Peter Tonguette

-Domestic and International Lobby Cards and Posters – Image Gallery

So you can see this is a really impressive collection of features on this Blu-ray. While maybe this film doesn't quite hit all the notes that the series did. It is still a fun little film. I am glad to have it on my shelf right beside all my Get Smart series DVDs.
