Written By Jason LockardSunday Night was a Monumental one for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! At the Academy Awards Black Panther and Avengers Infinity War was nominated for Oscars. That is a huge deal! Even more huge was that Black Panther was nominated for Best Picture!
First Infinity War was nominated for an Oscar for Visual Effect. It sadly didn't win the Oscar, that went to the film First Man. Was that the right decision? Personally I think the visual effects of Infinity Wars was stellar and deserved a win, but I can't say that any film the category couldn't have deservedly won.
As for Black Panther it was a huge night! Besides being nominated for Best Picture! The film took home Oscars for "Best Costume Design", "Best Production Design" and "Best Original Score". Than when it came to the Best Picture Oscar Black Panther was up against stiff competition in; Bohemian Rhapsody, Vice, A star is born, BlacKkKlansman, The Favorite, Green Book and Roma.
This did not go the way I was expecting! I was thinking Bohemian Rhapsody was going to take home the Oscar for Best Picture. I was shocked when Green Book took home the statue!
In the end Marvel had an amazing year of amazing movies and took home 3 Oscars. They have nothing to be ashamed of.
We should also give some love to another superhero film that took home an Oscar. This one for "Best Animated Film", Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. It seems Hollywood is finally realizing that Superhero films are really good films! Sadly its too late for two of my favorites to get any of that love! Iron Man and Captain America.
