Doomed The Untold Story of Roger Corman's Fantastic Four (DVD Review)

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

Long before the superhero movie boom that we have found ourselves in today, movies about superheroes were very few and far between. But in 1994 independent film icon Roger Corman was given the go ahead to film the first live action version of The Fantastic 4. But sadly the film would never see the light of day. The documentary "Doomed" tells the story of why!

The question is how do you make a Fantastic Four movie for only 1 Million Dollars? Roger Corman did just that! So why did the movie never see any release of any kind! This documentary uncovers the truth shining a light on Hollywood's shady deals and the conspiracies theories that maybe this movie wasn’t ever supposed to be released in the first place.

Among the interviewees Marty Langford (director of this documentary) managed to get included producer Roger Corman, director Oley Sassoon; editor Glenn Garland; casting assistant Mark Sikes, special effects make-up artist John Vulich, stars Alex Hyde-White, Rebecca Staab, Jay Underwood, Michael Bailey Smith, Carl Ciarfalio, Kat Green, and Joseph Culp and many more.

Even if you never got to see the Roger Corman Fantastic Four film this is a very interesting tale of behind the scenes politics. And why many actors, directors and writers prefer to make their own films their own way to have the freedom from Hollywood!

Now just because The Roger Corman film never saw a real release doesn't mean you can't track one down! They can be found at comic book conventions or even on the internet!

The films story seems thrown together but all the actors put everything they have into the film the special effects while a little cheesy by today's standards for 1994 was pretty good! The make-up work of The Thing I thought looked stellar! I have to say I wish that they would just release it on DVD and give everyone a chance to see this Roger Corman produced film once and for all!

I highly recommend if you love documentaries, superheroes or conspiracy theories! Check out Doomed! It's not available on Blu-ray from Uncork'd Entertainment. Buy it on Amazon today!
