A few years ago there was a horror movie entitled "What the Waters Left Behind". Five years later, a sequel was released entitled "What the Waters Left Behind Scars". Now Cleopatra Films and MVD Visual are releasing this film on Blu-ray.
After a packed gig in the middle of nowhere and a wild night out, an indie rock band's RV gets stuck in the middle of nowhere. The situation is tense: there is trouble within the band and member Billy Bob (MatÃas Desiderio, Palermo Hollywood ) lives up to his reputation as the band's black sheep when he first sleeps with a groupie and then flees. The remaining band members Jane (Clara Kovacic, The 100 Candles Game ) and Mark (Juan Pablo Bishel), as well as manager Javi (Agustin Olcese, The Red Book Ritual ) and companion Sophie (Eugenia Rigón, Abracadabra ).) go in search of the ruins of Epecuén. They soon realize not only that they are not alone, but that they are also in acute danger. And that you should also be careful with groupies.
The film uses the location so well. It lends itself to classic horror films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills have eyes. Now while some may say this film lacks real star power, I think helps the film a lot making it feel real! And the use of drones was very well done as well! But just be aware that there is nothing really unique here. It is the same horror formula, which could be viewed as boring! Depending on the viewer!
As with most horror films in this day and age there is a lot of violence, gore and sexual situations. But what this film has in common with Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills have eyes is the theme of cannibalism. If these themes are offensive viewer beware.
What The Waters left Behind Scars has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in widescreen format. The audio is a Dolby Digital. The transfer looks really crisp showing off all the gritty and raw quality of this horror film.
As for bonuses on this disc there is no English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The only bonuses found on this disc is trailers and an image slideshow. There is also trailers for additional Cleopatra Entertainment releases.. Fans of horror films would have no doubt enjoyed seeing cast interviews and other bonuses. But sadly they were not included.
Now while it might be a great idea to see the first film, I don't think it is necessary to see before watching this horror film. And I would also say to see this film the viewer should have a very strong stomach, as the gore could be a bit much! And for me it was a bit much. So this film was not for me, but for those that love that kind of gory horror will love it!
So, if you love horror movies with crazy character like Leatherface or the mutant family, I think What the Waters Left Behind Scars may just be a film you are going to want to add to your horror film collection.
