Almost 15 years ago, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released the complete series of Bridget Loves Bernie on a manufacture-on-demand DVD set sold in the U.S. exclusively through Amazon.com and WB Shop. And while that is better than nothing, it's not like a true pressed disc. Well, now that has been remedied, as Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has released Bridget Loves Bernie on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: Jewish working-class cab driver Bernie Steinberg (David Birney) falls in love at first sight with privileged Catholic teacher Bridget Fitzgerald (Meredith Baxter), and they find themselves in a whirlwind romance. While their love is constant, their parents are constantly meddling, both sides uncomfortable with each other's social status and religion.
This series really never caught on and only lasted one season. That is a shame. Okay, yes this show is not All in the Family of The Jeffersons, but it is entertaining. Meredith Baxter and David Birney has a real chemistry together. Understandably, they would marry in real life shortly after this show ended. The supporting cast is amazing as well. The cast included Harold J. Stone (The Wrong Man), Audra Lindley (TV's Three's Company), David Doyle (TV's Charlie's Angels) and Ned Glass (West Side Story).
All 24 episodes have been transferred to 3 Blu-ray discs and are presented in 1080p and are in the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio tracks are English 5.1 and Spanish PCM 5.1. These episodes have been remastered and look really nice. Now, I have never seen this series before this release. So it is hard to compare it to the original broadcast or the Made-On-Demand DVD. But I can say these episodes look crisp and clean and I didn't witness any damage to these episodes when screening them.

There are no bonus features on this Blu-ray set. I wish there was some interviews or retrospectives; something additional would have been nice. But the whole series on 3 Blu-ray discs are enough for me to add this release to my home video library.
