Daylight (1996) Kino Lorber 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray Review

When I think Sylvester Stallone, I think Rocky. That iconic role he created will never be duplicated. But he was more than just the underdog boxer. Stallone as a bonafide movie star. Starring in many acton/adventure films during his career. 

In 1996 Stallone starred in Daylight. This film is 30 years old. Boy, doesn't that make you feel old. For this film's 30th anniversary, Kino Lorber has taken a 4k Scan and transferred it to 4k and Blu-ray. Now Stallone fans or fans of survival films can add this film to their home video library. 
 
Synopsis: Sylvester Stallone (Cliffhanger) races against time to lead a group of stranded commuters out of a collapsed tunnel 100 feet below the Hudson River, and safely back into Daylight. When an explosion seals off a commuter tunnel, the survivors are faced with toxic fumes, fires and the impending collapse of the tunnel. Their only hope lies in the hands of Kit Latura (Stallone), a former Emergency Medical Services chief who is haunted by a tragic past. As the walls cave in and the tunnel fills up with water, Latura risks his own life to save others and prevent the disaster from escalating into an even greater catastrophe.

Now, because it is Stallone, you would think that Daylight is an action film. And while there are explosions and peril. This is a dramatic presentation about survival and the human spirit. Stallone balances his tough guy persona with the heart of compassion for people in need, leading to a wonderful performance.

And speaking of wonderful performances, this film is filled with great performances by Amy Brenneman, Viggo Mortensen, Dan Hedaya and Jay O. Sanders. Plus Daylight has great special effects! I really enjoyed this survival film!
