30 Years of Garbage Blu-ray Review | The Incredible Story of Garbage Pail Kids

Cabbage Patch Kids were all the rage in the 80s. There was something about them. But with the popularity of Mad Magazine there was a market for something a bit strange. A bit off the wall. Enter Garbage Patch Kids.

In a world where kids were collecting, football, baseball and basketball card, Garbage Patch Kids became the card for kids that wanted something a little bit different. Well, now as we are celebrate 40 years of these cards. The documentary about these cards are being re-releases on Blu-ray the film is entitled "30 Years of Garbage".  

Synopsis: In the 1980s a bunch of underground cartoonists parodied a popular doll (whose name can't be spoken). The resulting commercial trading cards/stickers tapped into an international zeitgeist that was brewing in a young generation who felt that this product spoke to the revulsion they had for the corporate pop culture that was being fed to them. Learn the truth behind the myth of The Garbage Pail Kids.

This documentary is directed by Joe Simko and Jeff Zapata, both artists and key figures behind the new "Garbage Pail Kids" card sets that began in 2003. So, who better to do this documentary then those who work on them.

Just like the previous Mad Magazine Documentary Blu-ray. 30 Years of Garbage tells the story of Garbage Pail Kids from the origin to the legacy and how people fondly remember these cards. It truly is an in-depth and well put together documentary.  

30 years of Garbage has been transferred to made-on-demand Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in widescreen format. The transfer is gorgeous with no signs of digital artifacts or audio anomalies. 

The biggest downside with this release is that there are no bonus features. This is literally a bare bones Blu-ray release. I'm sure there were interesting stories that didn't make the final cut of the film. These would have been nice to see as a bonus.

Even with the lack of bonus features this Blu-ray is a great film that track the history of a Garbage Pail Kids that is now 40 years old. Garbage Pail Kids still live on after all these years.
