Magnificent Bodyguards (1978) 8 Films Deluxe Blu-ray Review

Jackie Chan is a master at action films. Not since Bruce Lee was a martial artist able to make his name worldwide. And what makes Jackie Chan films so much fun, is he is not afraid to make fun of himself and make a lighthearted comedy.

Let's be honest who doesn't love him in the Rush Hour films. He was also great in Around the World in 80 days and the Shanghai films. 88 Films have went back into the archives and rescued an early Jackie Chan film, 1978's Magnificent Bodyguards and released it on deluxe Blu-ray.

Synopsis: Jackie Chan leaps out of the screen in Magnificent Bodyguards, as Lord Ting Chung he commits to leading a team of warriors escorting an ill man across a treacherous land known as Stormy Hills - a place filled with danger, betrayal and possible death. But as the journey unfolds, could their mysterious charge be hiding a deadly secret? 

Magnificent Bodyguards is directed by Wei Lo. Why is this so massive? He is the man that gave us Bruce Lee classics The Big Boss and Fist of Fury. This film is an action-packed film that helps Jackie Chan shine as an action star. This is also a very important film as it was the first 3-D film in Hong Kong Cinema history.

88 Films have transferred Magnificent Bodyguards to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. There are three audio tracks to choose from, all in 2.0. There is Mandarin, Cantonese and English dub. 

There are three Blu-ray discs included in this set and they included a flat 2-D version, a digital 3-D and an anaglyph 3-D version of this film. The new digital 3D features a brand New 2K Restoration from the Original Camera Negatives. 

Seeing this film in 3D is truly a fun expereince. But even watching it in 2D is still just as much fun. For me having the option for the bad Engliosh dub makes this release 100% better. I truly enjoyed this film in HD.

In addition to 3 discs and theis release included a deluxe booklet with tons of information and a spectacular ridgid slipcover complete with a lenticular 3D poster. This takes the cool fact of this release to off the charts level.
