Recently, I found out that before The X-Files ever debuted, there was a low-budget film that had an X-Files feel to it. That film was Invader and now it has been released on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: A tabloid reporter stumbles upon an epic conspiracy involving UFOs and a secret government weapons program in this 90s sci-fi gem that predates the X-Files.
While this film predated The X-Files, The X-Files it is not. The acting is okay. The story is mildly entertaining. And the special effects are cheesy but not bad. When I finished watching this film, to be honest, if I had never seen it, I wouldn't have felt like I missed anything.
Invader has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in the original full-screen format. The audio track is an English Dolby Digital 2.0 track. There are no English subtitles or this release, so don't look for them.
The picture quality is good. There are no digital artifacts or audio anomalies. And as we all know, I love bonus features. Well, this disc for me totally disappoints, in more ways than one. Not only is there no bonus features. There is not even a Blu-ray menu. Pop the disc in, and it starts playing. Totally disappointing to me.
If you love low-budget 90s sci-fi/horror flicks, Invader might be one you'll want to add to your home video library. Just don't expect to much on this Blu-ray. Head over to MovieZyng or Amazon and order your copy today.
