Spinal Tap II Blu-ray Review: Turning the Reunion Up to 11

In 1984 the world was treated to a film unlike anything seen before. It was a Mockumentary about a fictional British rock band entitled Spinal Tap. The film was entitled "This is Spinal Tap". The film has become a cult classic over the years.

Now over 40 years later it is finally time for a sequel, "Spinal Tap II: The End Continues". In fact, it is long overdue for a sequel. after it's theatrical run, this mockumentary sequel makes its way to a home video library near... or maybe even in your home video library.

Synopsis: Follow Spinal Tap England’s loudest and most punctual band as they reunite after a 15-year hiatus for one final concert.

Okay let's be honest here the original "This is Spinal Tap" really caught lightning in a bottle as they say. To recapture that is very difficult to do. Spinal Tap II is a nostalgia film, but a nostalgia film that at times works and other times not so much.

Part of the reason this works is because we have Rob Reiner back in front of and behind the camera directing this sequel. And of course Christopher Guest and Michael Mckean returning. But let's be honest, if they didn't this really wouldn't be Spinal Tap.

The film has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in widescreen format. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This Blu-ray transfer is crystal clear with a spot free imagery. The colors are nice, and the flesh tones are correct. As for the audio track, it's not bad. Nothing to write home about but not bad.

Now for me I always love to see what the bonus features are in a Blu-ray release. Well, I was thoroughly disappointed here. There is nothing. I would have loved to see some bonus interviews maybe telling stories about the original in comparison to this sequel. A Director's Commentary would have been nice too. But alas there is nary a thing.

If you loved the original film "This is Spinal Tap"! You will get a kick out of "Spinal Tap II: The End Continues". This Blu-ray is a nice way to see it. I just wished there was more to this disc than just the movie. If you would like to order your copy of Spinal Tap II on Blu-ray head over to Amazon and order yours today!
