Warner Brothers Home Entertainment have decided to release this series in its entirety on DVD. 3 Seasons 16 Discs. Great adventures await you with this box set of Spencer for Hire!
Synopsis: In the shadows of Boston, Spenser (Robert Urich), a former cop with a poet's soul and a fighter's fists, solves crimes in his own uniquely stylish way. A true Renaissance man, he faces danger head-on, backed by his formidable ally Hawk (Avery Brooks) and contacts inside the police department. While he's unstoppable on the streets, his love life stalls as his longtime love (Barbara Stock) refuses to marry a man whose life is a constant dance with death.
This series was based on Robert B. Parker's Spenser novels. The series, developed by John Wilder. The friendship dynamic between Robert Urich and Avery Brooks is amazing. I have always enjoyed the work of Roert Urich and Avery Brooks for me, better or worse, will always be Captain Benjamin Sisko on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Like with all episodic series some episodes are better than others, but one thing is for sure the entertainment value in this series is assured. This series have plenty of action and laughs making it the perfect mix for entertainment.
The 3 seasons of Spenser for Hire are spread across 16 DVD discs. 6 for season 1 and 5 each for season 2 and 3. Each season has its own color disc. Season one is in red. Season two in teal and season 3 is in blue.
All 66 episodes have seen transferred to DVD and is presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. As for the audio track it is an English Dolby Digital Mono (for seasons 1 and 2) and Dolby Digital Stereo for season 3. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Now the quality of these transfers is very nice. The picture is crisp and clean, and the audio is clear. But I must be honest. There is a couple of things that I have against this set. Number 1 why is this DVD instead of Blu-ray. Granted it is a minor complaint, but I am just wondering. Number 2 is the major one. There were 4 Spenser for Hire TV Movies. Why were these not included on this set? I don't have an answer for that!
All in All, even with this not being on Blu-ray and not including the 4 TV Movies. Spenser for Hire The Complete Series is still a wonderful release. I cannot say anything bad about this release. There is so much bang for your buck here!
