For a long-time wrestling was something you didn't tell everyone you watched. Unless you had friends that watched it too. Over the years it has become okay to enjoy the sports entertainment spectacle!
Even more so recently we have seen movies about these larger-than-life characters. We have seen The Claw about the Wrestler Baron Von Raschke and The Iron Claw about the life and tragedy of the famed Von Erich family.
Now it is time for a new biographical film. And this time it's for a female superstar. The first million-dollar female wrestler. The film is entitled 'Queen of the Ring'.
Synopsis: The story of Mildred Burke, the champion professional wrestler who pioneered the sport at a time when all-girl wrestling was banned in most of America.
In 2009, Jeff Leen published a Mildred Burke biography entitled 'The Queen of the Ring: Sex, Muscles, Diamonds, and the Making of an American Legend'. That book is in inspiration for this film.
Queen of the Ring is a raw and real look at the life and the times of a strong female who just happened to be a wrestler in a time when it was not looked on in a positive light. While not a perfect film. There are times the film drags a bit and their is a good chunk of adult content so this is not a family film by any stretch of the imagination.
Emily Bett Rickards really became Mildred Burke. She was spectacular as well as the rest of the cast that included, Josh Lucas, Tyler Posey, Francesca Eastwood, Deborah Ann Woll, Cara Buono, and Walton Goggins in supporting roles.
If you are a fan of sports biographies, wrestling movies or just real life accounts, Queen of the Ring is defiantly a film you will want to check out!
