Stop! Look! And Laugh! (1960) – Classic Three Stooges Comedy on Blu-ray 2025 Review

Moe, Larry and Curly! When you say these names everyone instantly knows who you are talking about. Of course, it is The Three Stooges. The Stooges made kids laugh for generations with their slapstick high jinks. And still are to this day with their own free streaming channel. That channel The Three Stooges+ can be found on free streaming networks like Pluto TV and Sling Free.

In 1960 ventriloquist Paul Winchell, his wonderful friends and the Marquis Chimp were bought together for a film that would be highlighted by classic clips of The Three Stooges to make a brand new feature film entitled, "Stop, Look And Laugh."

That film is now 65 years old! Can it truly be that old! Hard to fathom! For this epic anniversary Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have released this classic on Blu-ray. An the Three Stooges fan boy inside of me couldn't have been happier.

SynopsisIt's a Three Stooges buffet that will satisfy every appetite! Get ready to sink your teeth into a feature-length compilation of clips from your favorite Three Stooges shorts. STOP! LOOK! AND LAUGH! (1960) was compiled by producer/director Jules White, who has edited together some of the funniest Three Stooges clips featuring Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard. Introduced by Paul Winchell and his dummy Jerry Mahoney, these classic clips include bits from such favorites as A Plumbing We Will Go, Micro-Phonies and How High Is Up. Also featured are the Marquis Chimps starring in a hilarious rendition of the Cinderella story.

Now going into this film you need to realize this film is really not a Three Stooges film. This is a Paul Winchell film with Three Stooges antics thrown in. Paul will tell Jerry Mahoney a story and it would be played out by the Stooges. But anyone who has seen him realizes that Paul Winchell is hilarious and an entertainment genius.

I don't think people realize how much work it is. And how hard it can be to piece a film like this together. But producers hires 3 Stooges director Jules White to oversee this production. A great move. The used clips from Stooges films, Men in Black (1934), Goofs and Saddles (1937), Violent is the Word for Curly (1938), Calling All Curs (1939), Oily to Bed, Oily to Rise (1939), A-Plumbing We Will Go (1940), How High Is Up? (1940), Sock-a-Bye Baby (1942), What’s the Matador (1942), Higher Than a Kite (1943), Micro Phonies (1945) and Half-Wits Holiday (1947).

Now Shooting new film to be pieced with old films, to make a seamless new film is not a piece of cake. Look how much work went into Steve Martin's film, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. Stop, Look and Laugh is really well done and a joy to watch, especially if you love The Three Stooges.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a DTS-HD Master Audio mono track. There is also the options for English and Spanish subtitles.

Now there has been no mention or restoration and the film transfer doesn't look to have undergone a restoration. That is a shame. For a film that is celebrating a 65th Birthday. A restoration would have been a beautiful thing. But the film still looks and sounds nice in HD!

As for bonus features! It is a bit disappointing. The only bonus on this Blu-ray is the Theatrical trailer. It would have been nice to see the descendent of the Stooges speak about Moe, Larry and Curly. Or even see some bonus Three Stooges shorts included.

I think this Blu-ray release could have been a lot better.
I didn't own a copy of this film before this release. So for me to have this Blu-ray in my Three Stooges collection. This is a great addition.
