Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League (2025) 4k UltraHD Review

In 2018 Junpei Mizusaki directed some of Japan's finest artist in the Warner Brothers produced American-Japanese reimagining of the legendary Batman. In that film the East collides with the West. It was a unique take on Batman taking him out of the world of Gotham City to medieval Japan.

Now surprisingly it took 7 years for a sequel to come to Batman Ninja fans. In late May 2024, the announcement came that the sequel to Batman Ninja was in development. Junpei Mizusaki was returning as director, with Kazuki Nakashima writing the screenplay and Koichi Yamadera reprising his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman. The film would be entitled Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League. Now Warner Brothers Home Entertainment have released this sequel on 4K UltraHD.

Synopsis: In this sequel to Batman Ninja, the Batman family has returned to the present to discover that Japan has disappeared, and a giant island - Hinomoto - is now in the sky over Gotham City. At the top sit the Yakuza, a group of superpowered individuals who reign without honor or humanity and look suspiciously like the Justice League. Now, it's up to Batman and his allies to save Gotham!

It is really cool seeing an alternate world. In this films we see versions of our favorite superheroes as the Yakuza League this includes, Bari, the Fleet of Foot (The Flash), Daiana Amazone (Wonder Woman), Ahsa the Aqua Dragon (Aquaman), Zeshika the Emerald Ray (Green Lantern) and Kuraku, The Man of Steel (Superman).

The animation is Japanese Anime and admittedly this is not going to be everyone's kind of film. The story is good, but people that love Batman in his normal setting fighting crime, will find themselves disappointed with this film. But if you love anime this is really going to bring you 90 minutes of enjoyment.

Warner Brothers Home Entertainment has transferred Batman Ninja vs yakuza League to 4k UltraHD in 2160p and presented in widescreen format. There are two audio options English and Japanese audio in DTS-HD master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles.

This film transfer is tremendous. The picture is crisp and clean, and the colors are gorgeous. There is no digital artifacts or audio anomalies that I witnessed while screening this film. But a wonderful transfer is not all that is included in this release. Take a look at the bonus features included in this 4K!

* Bring the League to Japan
* Anime Action: Choreographing the fights
* Digital Copy

There is no doubt that the film really benefits from the 4K disc. But I really enjoyed the bonus featurettes included as well. To go behind the scenes and see the making of this animated film is such cool thing for me. I also think the addition of the digital copy makes a great bonus as you can watch the films anywhere, we are even if you don't have the disc with you.

So, if you enjoyed the first film 'Batman Ninja' well you need the sequel 'Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League to add to that one. It will make a great addition to your superhero/anime Home Video Library. Head over to Physical Media Land or Amazon and order your copy today!
