Dinosaur Valley GIrls (1996) Blu-ray Review

In the 1990s there were many exploitation films. These films were very popular at the video stores teens and young adults would rent these movies and enjoy the cheesy goodness of these films that were far from Citizen Kane pieces of cinema.

Don Glut wrote episodes of many classic children's television on shows such as Shazam!, Land of the Lost, Spider-Man, Transformers, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, DuckTales, The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero and X-Men, just to name a few. But in 1996 he wrote and directed the sci-fi adventure comedy exploitation film Dinosaur Valley Girls.

This film will soon be celebrating it's 30th birthday, so Visual Vengeance has decided to give this film a super deluxe Blu-ray release. Fans of exploitation films of the 90s are going to really be excited for this release.

Synopsis: Chain-smoking Hollywood action movie star Tony Markham is zapped back in time via a magic artifact to a prehistoric world of flesh-hungry dinosaurs, angry cavemen, and a tribe of exotic, love-starved cavegirls. He must use his modern-day machismo and best karate moves to survive the onslaught of Jurassic terrors while wooing the literal cavegirl of his dreams, Hea-Thor.

With a title like Dinosaur Valley Girls well, you know what you're getting there. The acting is over the top, the story is crazy, and the special effects are cheesy. But that is what fans are looking for in these types of films. They want a fun time of crazy film madness. And you get your fill with this one. On the plus side is the stop motion animation of the dinosaurs. I have loved stop motion animation ever since I watched my first Ray Harryhausen film. So that makes this film so cool for me.

Visual Vengeance has transferred Dinosaur Valley Girls to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in full screen format in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a stereo audio. There is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Now this transfer isn't just any transfer. The film has been remastered, director-supervised SD master from original tape elements. While the film is not a 4k restoration the film does look pretty nice for a standard definition remaster. The film's picture is pretty sharp and the colors are bright and vibrant. But Visual Vengeance as always loaded this disc up with some amazing bonus features. Take a look at what is included.

From two commentaries, featurettes, interviews, additional scenes and audition reels. All these bonuses give the viewer more detail into this film and give you more appreciation for this production.

Visual Vengeance puts so much detail into their Blu-ray releases. I love the awesome slipcase, reversible Blu-ray insert, the mini-posters and the VHS stickers really give this release the retro feel I love so much. I also love that that added the PG-13 version of the film on this Blu-ray. Too Cool!
