Zyzzyx Road (2006) 2-Disc Collector's Edition 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Review

Zyzzyx Road you probably never heard of this American film thriller and that is understandable. It is probably known for being the lowest grossing film, box office wise, in cinema history earning only $30, mainly because it was only released in one theater.  There is a great piece of trivia for you.

The film was released in in February of 2006. Now as the film is coming upon its 19th anniversary, Dark Arts Entertainment and MVD Visual has decided to take the 4K restoration and release this film on 4K/Blu-ray complete with bonus features.

Synopsis: A married man (Leo Grillo) meets a beautiful woman (Katherine Heigl) in a Las Vegas casino and allows her to seduce him. But when her jealous boyfriend (Tom Sizemore) finds them together and a scuffle results in the boyfriend's death, the lovers put his body in the trunk of a car and head to the eponymous Zyzzyx Road in the desert to bury the corpse, only to discover the body is nowhere to be found.

Zyzzyx Road has an interesting storyline, but it is far from a great film. The acting is pretty good. Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy) really spreads her wing in this role. Leo Grillo is great beside her and when Tom Sizemore (Born on the Fourth of July) pops up on the screen it really is a jump scare. The film has a twist you don't expect, which is nice.

As stated earlier the film was only released in one US Theater. The limited release was deliberate one. Star Leo Grillo didn't want the film released domestically until it underwent foreign distribution, but the film had to fulfill the U.S. release obligation required by the Screen Actors Guild for low-budget films.

Zyzzyx Road has been restored in 4K
supervised by Director John Penney. On the 4k disc the film is presented in HDR 2160p in its original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. On the Blu-ray the film is presented in 2K 1080p HD in its original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. There are two audio options a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and a Dolby Digital 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard and hearing.

The film's picture is crisp and clean. It is as sharp as a tack. There is no signs of digital artifacts. The audio track is clear with no audio anomalies. MVD Visual did a great job with this 4k restoration. Now in addition to a crisp 4k/Blu-ray transfer MVD Visual has added some really awesome bonus features to this release. Take a look at what is included on this 2-disc release.
