Punto Rojo (2021) Blu-ray Review

When you say "Movie Thrillers" most people would think, Seven, Sin City, Silence of the Lambs, North by Northwest, The Fugitive or Vertigo. Depending on your taste. Whether your like the classics or the newer feature films.

But thrillers are more than just an American thing. All around the world filmmakers enjoy bringing thrilling tales to the big screen.  In 2021 writer and director Nicanor Loreti brought his thrilling tale to the screen in Punto Rojo. Now the good folks at MVD Visual are giving this Spanish thriller a change to live in HD on Blu-ray in physical media fans' collections forever!

Diego (Demian Salomon, Terrified, When Evil Lurks) is a crook and a hooligan for "Racing Club", one of Argentina's greatest soccer teams. While sitting in his car in the middle of nowhere and participating in a quiz show about his beloved football team, a man suddenly falls from the sky and into his windshield. When a tough as nails female secret agent (Moro Anghileri, On the Third Day) arrives to confront Diego and asks about the dangerous con man keeping a dark secret who happens to be kidnapped in the trunk of his car, all hell is about to break loose!

Punto Rojo is a slow burn mystery thriller. Nicanor Loreti really took his time to weave a tale. Now for some members of the film community, they can't sit still long enough for the slow burn to reach the end. We live in an instant gratification society. But if you can stay invested to the end you will be rewarded.

Punto Rojo was transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. There is two Spanish audio options a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and a LPCM 2.0. There are also English subtitles for this film! The only thing that could have made that better would have been the option for English dubbing!

Now with this film being released in 2021, this film was shot in HD so you know you have a really nice print to work with. Now MVD's transfer to Blu-ray is amazing. The film looks and sound crisp and clean. There is no digital artifacts and no audio anomalies! The colors are bright and vibrant! Tremendous looking transfer. In addition to a great film transfer there are some really cool bonus features!

In the audio commentary Nic Loreti really takes you deep into his mind as the director to show you his thoughts on the scenes of this film. Very good listen! The other awesome bonus is the short film by director Nic Loreti Pinball. This short film really packs a punch. It must be seen!

Now I know everyone is not a fans of thrillers or Spanish language films. That is what makes the film industry so great there is something for everyone! But if you do love thrilling foreign films, I think your should give Punto Rojo a try! It may just surprise you!
