The Odd Couple (1970-1975) Blu-ray Review

Neil Simon was a prolific playwright. He penned "Barefoot in the Park", "The Sunshine Boys", "Biloxi Blues", but probably the most known and loved was "The Odd Couple". The theater production was so popular that in 1965 the story was made into a feature film starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

Five years after the film's release, Paramount Television brought to ABC tv a series adapted from Neil Simon's award-winning play. Now These hilarious TV series comes home to Blu-ray!

The series features the antics of two divorced men living together in New York City. Felix Unger (Tony Randall) is an uptight photographer, continually at odds with his unkempt sportswriter roommate, Oscar Madison (Jack Klugman).

Along with Jack And Tony we saw the supporting characters in this series Officer Murray Greshler played by Al Molinaro and Myrna Turner, Oscar's secretary, played by Penny Marshall. Than there was Oscar's poker buddies,  Homer "Speed" Deegan played by Garry Walberg, Vincent "Vinnie" Barella portrayed by Larry Gelman and Ryan McDonald who played Roy.

The show ran for 5 hilarious Emmy nominated seasons.
The show was so popular it had many great guest stars including legendary Sportscaster Howard Cosell, Pop singer Jaye P. Morgan, game show hosts Monty Hall, Richard Dawson, disc jockey Wolfman Jack, David Steinberg, Hugh Hefner, Rodney Allen Rippy, John Simon, Bubba Smith, Deacon Jones, John Barbour and Allen Ludden and Betty White.

In 1997, TV Guide ranked the "100 Greatest Episodes of All Time". Coming in at #5 was the season 3 "Password" in this episode Oscar appears as a celebrity contestant on Password, with Felix as his partner. Of course, one of my favorite episodes was "Scrooge gets an Oscar". In this episode Felix is directing a stage production of A Christmas Carol and wants Oscar to play Scrooge. When he refuses Oscar dreams, he is Scrooge.

Each Season contains 3 Blu-ray discs in its own unique Blu-ray case with its own season artwork. The episodes have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in the original full screen format.
