Apple Seed (2019) Blu-ray Review

VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual bring physical media fans much more than just classic films and cult films on DVD and Blu-ray! They release some great newer films! Case in point is the new Blu-ray/DVD combo release of the 2019 dramatic film Apple Seed.

Rance Howard is probably best known as being the father of famed director Ron Howard and actor Clint Howard. But he was an actor in his own right. He made appearances on classic TV shows like, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Kung Fu, The Waltons, and Seinfeld. In addition, he appeared in over 100 films, including classics like Cool Hand Luke, The Music Man, Splash, Cocoon, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man and Frost/Nixon.

Rance Howard sadly passed away in 2017. The film Apple Seed was released in 2019 and it featured Rance Howard in one of his final film roles. Now Apple Seed is being released in Blu-ray/DVD thanks to the good folks at VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual.

On a cross country road trip to rob his hometown bank Prince Mccoy (Micheal Worth) finds himself having to rely on the help of an ex-convict hitchhiker named Carl Robbins (Rance Howard). Along the way the people they meet and the friendships they build begin to heal the ghosts of their pasts. However, they both have one final crossroad to face in the small town of Apple Seed.

I have to be honest I didn't go into watching this film with high hopes. Boy was I wrong! The story is about people with problems. And how they deal with those problems. Rance Howard really shines here, and Micheal Worth pulls triple duty here with writing the screenplay, directing and acting in this film. amazing! The film is a story of redemption and forgiveness, and really shocked me how good of a film it was.

Micheal Worth was sure not to push any ideology. This could have really turned certain members of the audience away from this film. Maybe this was a good idea! Micheal and Rance have a real buddy relationship in the film. And the supporting cast is pretty good to. We see Clint Howard (The Cowboys, The Waterboy), Adrienne Barbeau (Maude, Swamp Thing) and Ester Anderson to name a few.

The film has been transferred in 1080p in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. There is audio options of a 5.1 Surround and stereo audio. There is also the option
 for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The film transfer is crisp and clean, the audio is clear. It is a tremendous looking transfer! But there is more than just the film on this 2 disc set. Take a look at the bonus features included on this set!

* Director's Cut of Apple Seed
* Audio Commentary by Director and star, Michael Worth
* The Making of Apple Seed
* A Tribute to Rance Howard
* Clint Howard on KTLA

* Apple Seed Trailer

As you can see there is some cool bonus features here! To have 2 versions of this film, an insightful audio commentary, features, a new interview with Clint talking about working with his dad on this film just before he passed. This is a great release.

Sometimes a film comes along that just straight out surprises you and Apple Seed was just such a film. I cannot recommend this film enough for dramatic film fans.

So, if you are looking for a film that deal with real people and real problems, Apple Seed is a film you need to see. And this new Blu-ray/DVD release is the perfect way to see it! Head over to Amazon and order your copy today!
