Vile (2011) Blu-ray Review

Vile Blu-ray cover
October is the perfect time month to experience horror films. And for many fans the gorier the better. One of the fan favorite film series is that of Saw! The torture film series is still popular even to the day if this writing.

So, with this type of film being so popular there are definitely going to be producers trying to cash in on that popularity. In 2011 director Taylor Sheridan brough his torture horror film to the screen with Vile. Now the good folks at MVD Visual under the division MVD Marquee Collection are releasing these films on Blu-ray, just in time for Halloween.

Four friends are kidnapped by a madman and locked in a house with six other people. Each of the captives has to endure life-threatening torture to fill a device attached to their heads or they will be trapped inside forever.

Vile feels extremely claustrophobic and it is quite the ride. But you need to have a strong stomach to get through this one. The violence and gore are intense to say the least. The acting is passable, nothing extraordinary. The direction is good. Vile is entertaining but can be a chore to get through unless you are a gore hound.

Vile is transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p with the film presented in 1:78.1 aspect ratio. The audio is a 5.1 Surround, LPCM 2.0 Stereo Audio. There are also optional English subtitles. The film was shot a little over a decade ago so there is no need for restoration. But the transfer to Blu-ray is very good. The picture is clean.

* Deleted Scenes

* Theatrical Trailer (HD)

* Reversible Artwork

As you can see there is some cool bonuses! The Trailer and deleted scenes just in case you didn't get enough in watching the film. And I love artwork so different artwork is always a welcomed addition!

You can tell Vile is inspired by The Saw Franchise, but it is not a knockoff. It has similarities, but it is a film all its own. It will be interesting to see if this film ends up getting turned into a franchise just like saw. Only time will tell!

If you love those gory torture films this new Blu-ray of Vile is a must for your horror collection. For the average films fan probably not so much. So, gore hounds head over to Amazon and order your copy today. If you love gory horror movies this one will not disappoint!
