Sir Ben Kingsley is an award winning actor that starred in such iconic films during his career as; Ghandi, Schindler's List, Hugo and he even entered the Marvel cinematic universe in Iron Man 3.
Well, in 2023 Sir Ben Kingsley entertained an alien in the film Jules. Now Decal Releasing is giving physical media fans a chance to own this film on Blu-ray!
Milton's quiet retirement is upended when a UFO crashes in his backyard. The unexpected friendship he develops with its alien passenger, "Jules," helps him find meaning in his later years and newfound connections he never knew he needed. As he begins his journey in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.
Jules is a sweet and dramatic film that you won't soon forget. Along with Sir Ben Kingsley (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Harriet Sansom Harris (The Man Who Came to Dinner), Zoe Winters (Succession), Jane Curtin (Saturday Night Live, 3rd Rock from the Sun), Teddy Cañez (The Wire), Edward James Hyland (Bridge of Spies).
Jules could find itself as simply just another sci-fi film, but Jules goes much deeper in the story! It explores aging gracefully with dignity, friendship and family and it does it with a sense of humor. I must say I went into this film not expecting much and I was very pleasantly surprised!
Marc Turtletaub masterfully directed this film. Running at a mere 90 minutes it is the perfect length. Shorter and it would feel rushed and longer and I fear the story would suffer. The film is rated PG-13 and but for just a few profanities this could easily be considered a great family film.
Jules has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in widescreen format. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The film's transfer looks and sounds great. There are no digital artifacts. As for bonus features there is a featurette entitled Becoming Jules.
It is good to note that this Blu-ray is manufactured on demand in the BD-R format. It will play in nearly all leading Blu-ray players that have the latest firmware updates, but Microsoft Xbox One does not currently support BD-R playback.
Jules is an ambitious story that really takes advantage of every minute of it's hour and a half running time. Okay so yes, I wished the profanity was nonexistent in the film and more bonus features would make this release so much better. But it is still a great little film.
