Blu-ray Review: Big Time Gambling Boss

Japanese cinema is something that American movie fans seemed to always be interested in. Ever since we first saw Godzilla of the first time. Through the years we would see Kung-Fu films and legends like Bruce Lee.

The fandom of Japanese cinema continues in 2023. Radiance Films knows this and has released the action-paced 1960s film entitled Big Time Gambling Boss on Blu-ray, for the first time ever.

In 1930s Tokyo gang boss Arakawa is gravely ill and his successor must be named. The choice falls on Nakai, but being an outsider he refuses and suggests senior clansman Matsuda instead. But Matsuda is in jail and the elders won't wait for his release, so they appoint the younger and more malleable Ishido to take the reins. Clan honor and loyalties are severely tested when Matsuda is released, resulting in an increasingly violent internal strife.

As a fan of films like The Godfather, The Untouchables, and many of the gangster, organized crime-style movies, it is cool to see the yakuza (Japanese organized crime) represented here with Big Time Gambling Boss. The film has a interesting story! And as soon as the opening credits finish, you are pulled into the story and before you know it your right along for this ride.

This film has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p with the film presented in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The original Japanese audio is a PCM Mono. For those who don't speak Japanese, don't worry there is English subtitles.

This transfer is really amazing the picture is crisp and the clean with no real signs of damage to this print. If there is one thing I wish that was part of this release it would be the the English dubbing. There is something special to me about that bad English dubbing. I grew up on those type of films and I enjoy it so much.

Radiance Films didn't stop at just an impressive transfer, oh no! They added some really nice special features added onto this Blu-ray release. Upping the cool factor. Take a look at what is included.
