Deep Red (1975) {4K Review}

Reviewed by Jason Lockard

Dario Argento is the Italian film director, producer, screenwriter and critic. His influential work in the horror genre during the 1970s and 1980s, particularly in the subgenre known as giallo. Probably one of his most well known film is 1977s Suspiria.

Arrow Video known how much movie fans love their Argento films, So they releases not one, but two Argento films on 4k The bird with the Crystal Plummage and. The Cat O'Nine Tails You can read the review of these by clicking here. But now it's time for another  Argento classic to get a 4K release. This time it is 1975s Deep Red.

Jazz musician Marcus Daly (David Hemmings) finds the murdered body of a psychic medium. Feeling the need to solve the case, he works with reporter Gianna Brezzi (Daria Nicolodi), who has hopes for the big scoop. Suddenly one of Marcus's own friends become the murder's next victim. The duo realize they must work fast before they become next on the maniac's hit list.

Dario Argento's Deep Red is considered by some as his masterpiece. That is up for debate, but it is without a doubt a very entertaining, mystery, horror film. It is good to note that just like with most Argento film there ids a good amount of violence and blood. But surprisingly there just is a little adult language, but there is a use of one
derogatory word that many could find offensive. So viewer beware.

Deep Red has been transferred from a brand new
restoration from a 4K scan of the original negative and presented in High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) presentation. Also there is options for the original Italian soundtrack in DTS-HD MA mono 1.0 and lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio, and original English soundtrack in DTS-HD MA mono 1.0.

I have to say Deep Red have never looked and sounded better than in this brand new release. The picture is sharp and the audio is clear and the 'deep red' runs cold. There is just the perfect amount of film grain. It really is a tremendous restoration, but the this amazing restoration is not all that is included in this brand new 4k release. Arrow Video loaded this release up with awesome bonus features. Take a look at what is included.
