In October 1977 country music star Johnny Paycheck took the music world by storm when he released the song "Take this job and shove it". It seemed to cross genre boundaries and everyone was singing along!
Than a few later in 1981 a film was made with the same name. While the film wasn't a huge success in it's theatrical release. The film became a cult classic from it's numerous airings on cable TV over the years.
Now KL Studio Classics is bringing this 80s cult classic to film fans once again. The best part is this time it's in HD on Blu-ray.
The "Alison Group" a corporate entity has bought four beer breweries that are in financial trouble. The young top manager Frank Macklin (Robert Hays) is sent to reorganize one of them. The only problem is this one which happens to be in his hometown and employs many of his friends.
To say he receives a cold reception would be an understatement. But he has a job to do to make this brewery profitable by any means necessary. Does he have what it take to do it? Out aside firendship and do his job? You'll have to see the film to find out.
Take this job and shove it is a slapstick comedy/drama. While the story is a good one. It fails to be an impressive film. But that doesn't mean it is not a lot of fun to watch. Sometime you just want to escape the care of life and this film will help you do that.
The cast is is lead by Robert Hays and Barbara Hershey. But there are plenty of names in this cast you will know. Including Art Carney (the Honeymooners), Eddie Albert (Green Acres), Tim Thomerson (Trancers), Martin Mull (Fernwood 2 Night).
As for this Blu-ray release, the film has been transferred in 1080p in it's original widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The soundtrack is English 2.0 Mono DTS-High Definition Master Audio. English SDH subtitles are an available option. The picture quality is sharp with great colors and the audio is crystal clear. It really is a beautiful transfer.
A beautiful transfer is not where this Blu-ray release ends. Kino Lorber added a very cool image gallery featuring a slideshow presentation of original posters, black-and-white and color production stills. Than there are six theatrical trailers included; Take This Job and Shove it, Honky Tonk Freeway, Million Dollar Mystery, Moving Violations, High Ballin, and Body Slam.
Take this job and shove it is rated PG. But I should warn viewers there is a lot of adult language in this one. So if that offends you, be warned. But if you are looking for a fun escapism film. Take this job and shove it may just be up your alley. And this Blu-ray is the best way to see it!
