Django (Movie Review)

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Spaghetti westerns is a term used for western films produced in Europe. Some of the most iconic ones would have to be the Clint Eastwood westerns. But there were so many made.

When you say Django in this generation most people think of the Quentin Tarantino movie Django Unchained starring Jamie Fox. But let's be honest here that film was just a love letter to the original which was 1966 Spaghetti western Django.

Sergio Corbucchi wrote and directed the film about a coffin-dragging gunslinger Django (Franco Nero) and a half-breed prostitute become embroiled in a bitter feud between a Klan of Southern racists and a band of Mexican Revolutionaries.

The film is a pulse-pounding western filled with intrigue. It is interesting to note that Django was so violent for the 1960s it was either banned or given a mature audience certificate. Now when you look at by today's standards it would be a PG-13 rating.

I have to say watching Frank Nero as Django is just amazing! Of course this isn't the only time his was amazing! Arrow Video released an amazing Blu-ray of Franco Nero in Keoma! You may want to read the full review of that release here!

Django looks better on this Arrow Video release than I have seen it anywhere. Now you can watch it on a less than spectacular version. But this great of a western deserves to be seen in the best quality possible and I would say this is it.

Now Arrow Video is planning to release Django on Blu-ray. But for those that want to see this ultra cool spaghetti western now. Now worries! Arrow Video has a streaming service and you can see this movie and so many more great Arrow Video releases at Arrow-Player.com.
