At the time of this review we are right in the midst of Halloween month. It is a time for creepy, scary, horror films. Edgar Allan Poe knew how to spin a web of horror in his tales. That is why his stories were made into film time after time again.
VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual
have joined forces to bring us a an "Edgar Allan Poe Heart-quaking double feature DVD. Let's
take a look at the films included in this 2 disc DVD set.
Movie Rating:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.
THE TELL-TALE HEART (1960) When Edgar sees his girlfriend Betty
getting up close and personal with his best friend Carl, he murders Carl
in a jealous rage and hides the corpse under the floor of his piano
room. Comes the night, and Edgar begins to hear strange sounds coming
from under the floor... Definitely not for the faint of heart! ***
LEGEND OF HORROR (1972) When two men escape from prison and one starts
a murder spree. Based on Poe's blood-chilling Tell-Tale Heart! **
Both of these films are very well produced adaptions to Poe's tale The acting and direction in both films are very well done. They are both tense horrific tales from the master Edgar Allan Poe.
As for this DVD release the film transfers themselves Legend of Horror is presented in widescreen format, while the Tell-Tale heart is presented in the original full screen format. Both film are in Dolby digital 2.0. Both films look really good on this DVD no real signs of damage to the prints. Finally as a cool bonus both films have the option for English subtitles for the def and hard of hearing.
I really enjoyed this double feature. I think it will make a great addition to any classic movie fans Halloween viewing. Or viewing for any time of the year for that matter. 2 Edgar Allan Poe movies for the price of one you can beat that.
