For film aficionados and film students Arrow Academy releases films that are more than just cinematic experiences these films are pieces
of art on film. The next film on tap for release is 1962's Japanese film The Mad Fox.

The Mad Fox takes place during the reign of the Emperor Suzaku (930- 946 A.D.). A strange white rainbow's appearance in the sky over Kyoto, bring strange occurances. The Emperor orders astronomer, Yasunori, to consult a certain Chinese book of secrets to calm the fear of the people.

Yasunori has two disciples, Yasuna and Doman. But he desires that Yasuna succeeds him because Doman is interested only in power. Dorman assisted by Yasunori's wife has Yasunori killed and Doman also steals the secret book and puts the blame on Yasuna and his sweetheart, Sakaki, Yasunori's adopted daughter. Sakaki commits suicide and Yasuna kills Yasunori's wife in his rage.

Doman slowly loses his mind. Hope appears to be on the horizon after he becomes romantically involved with his dead lover’s twin sister, but more complications arise thanks to a chance encounter with a clan of shape-shifters.

This was director Tomu Uchida's second to last film. The style is a film making master piece. Visually stunning and a story that is truly fascinating. The sets and colors used in this film are so eye pleasing.

The film has a brand new restoration by Toei. It is presented in widescreen format in High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) presentation it has the original uncompressed mono Japanese audio and includes optional newly translated English subtitles. This transfer is spectacular. There is no signs of damage to this print anywhere. It is stunning to say the least.
