DVD Review: Space Rangers Complete Series

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

Ever since time began man has looked to the stars. We dream of what is out there and about possibly having amazing adventure in outer space. Thus the reason for the popularity of Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and many other films, shows and graphic novels. In 1993 CBS debuted a show entitled Space Rangers it didn't seem to gain an audience, but over the years has become somewhat of a cult classic. Now lovers of the series can own all of the episodes in one collection thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment.

Space Rangers takes place in the year 2104. An Earth colony Fort Hope on the distant planet Avalon struggles to survive. A small force of police/marines called the "Space Rangers Corps" are the first, last and only line of defense for the colonists against crime and the perils of interstellar exploration.

The show has a very fun campy type feel to it, but with a lot of adventure and dangerous turmoil at every turn. While the special effects can be dated, it is still very cool for nostalgia. The actors really put their all into these roles and you can see that. I really enjoyed this fun little series. It is a shame it didn't get a chance to live on.

This 2 disc DVD set includes all six episodes 2 of which were never broadcast in the original run. In 1994 the series was edited into 3 movies and released on VHS tape, disc 2 includes these three Chronicle Movies.
