Hail Mary! {DVD Review}

Football and Comedy a two great forms of entertainment that go great together.... maybe! Castel-Lane Productions gave it a go at this brand of entertainment. Now MVD Visual is giving us all a chance to own this film on DVD.  

The film follows Coach Danny Morelli, He is the coach of the worst pro football team in the league the Portland Lobsters! Despite having the best blue chip quarterback, there is no protection for him and thus they have lost 32 games in a row. Facing being fired he comes up with one final "Hail Mary" to save his job and make his team a winner.

The desperate act is to travel to Japan to buy a school of sumo wrestlers. His intention? To bring the humongous wrestlers back to Portland to replace his inept offensive line. The key wrestler is played by Yama (Zoolander 2). Will this scheme work! Will Coach Morelli save his job? Will the Lobsters go from worst to first? You'll have to watch the film to find out!

This is film is a fun little mix of football and comedy. It is really cool to see Eddie Mekka aka The Big Ragu from the classic TV show Laverne and Shirley, as the hilariously inept Coach Morelli. As for the film's football segments were in brush-stroke animation. I think the idea here was to give the football segments a comic book look. I guess it was a unique style, but I'm still not sure how I feel about it, even after watching it!

Now for the DVD itself. The film has been transferred in widescreen format and is in 5.1 audio. The film looks and sounds tremendous. There is no sign of pixelation or dirt. But MVD went beyond and loaded some cool bonus features on this disc including: 'Sushi Tushi' Comic Book Teaser, Original Movie Trailer, Song and Lyrics for 'The Acorn Song', a traditional Japanese Nursery Rhyme.

While Hail Mary! May not be a perfect film there is some fun in it! It is a nice little family comedy! I would have to caution parents there is some mild adult language and some mild comedic sumo nudity. So this may not be suitable for small kids.
