Buffalo Girls (1995) {DVD Review}

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Western movies hold a very special place in people’s hearts. It hearkens us back to a simpler time. Maybe that is why there are so many of them. I never was a huge fan of westerns myself, but recently I have began to see the beauty in old west films.

The good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have released a unique old west mini-series event featuring strong western females. The mini-series was entitled Buffalo Girls.

The mini-series is based on Lonesome Dove author Larry McMurtry's best-selling novel and follows tough-talking Calamity Jane Canary (Anjelica Huston), Madam Dora DuFra (Melanie Griffith) and Annie Oakley (Reba McEntire) as Calamity searches for Jane's long-lost daughter.

The story is full of drama, heart and action. The three ladies carry this mini-series very well! But there are some great male actors in this mini-series as well. Including, Sam Elliott, Gabriel Byrne, Peter Coyote, Jack Palance and Liev Schrieber. The series moves along at a good pace and so you don't get to bored with the story.

The mini-series is presented in 2 parts in 1.33:1 full screen format. The program looks and sounds amazing. As a special feature included is an English subtitle track for the hearing impaired, which is a nice feature.

If your a fan of tales of the old west or you love to see girls kick butt this mini-series is for you. By all means pick this one up! To find out how to get a copy for yourself visit www.MillCreekEnt.com or your local DVD provider and pick up a copy today.
