Crossbow The complete series (1987-89)

Reviewed by: Jason S. Lockard

We all know the legend of William Tell the man, the marksman, who shot the apple off his son's head! But there is so much more to the story of William Tell! And in the 80's the amazing life of William Tell came to TV in Crossbow! Now thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment you can own the complete TV series on DVD.

The TV series takes place in 14th century Switzerland which is under tyrannical rule by Governor of Austria Gessler. William Tell's son Matthew is tired of the evil Governor and stands up against him leading to Williams and Matthew's Imprisonment. Separated from his son William escapes and begins to lead a resistance while searching for his son and wife.

Crossbow was shot entirely in France and aired in America on The Family Channel for 3 seasons. Those 3 seasons would bring us 72 half hour episodes of action and adventures. Here is the breakdown of episodes on the DVDs.

                                                            Season 1
Disc 1:  The Banquet / The Prisoner / The Little Soldier / The Scavengers / Reunion / Albion / Sanctuary / The Dukes of Zharinghen / The Bet / The Stallion / The Impostor / The Pass

Disc 2: Misalliance / The Alchemist / Possessed! / The Moor: Part 1 and Part 2 / The Four Horsemen / The Citadel / The Princess / Lotus / The Physician / The Handmaiden / The Rebirth

Season 2
Disc 3: Nightmare / Birthright / Trolls / Nemesis / The Pit / The Rock / The Taking of Castle Tanner / Fear / The Emperor: Part 1 and Part 2 / The Lost Crusader / Exit the Dragon

Disc 4: Actors / Seekers of the Soul / Masterplan / Ladyship / The Promised Land / Rejection / Message to Geneva / The Electors / The Inquisitor / Amnesty / Blood Brothers / Betrayal

Season 3
Disc 5: The Touch / Spirit of Rebellion / Insurrection / Doppelganger / Trail Break / The Mission / The Bounty Twins / The Gods / Gansari's Zombies / The Shadow / Gorian the Spider / Forbidden Fruit

Disc 6: The Lost City / The Bridge / Silver Rider / The Children / The Magician / Wind Wagon / Goldilocks / Amazon / Head Hunters / Forbidden Land / The Moment of Truth: Part 1 and Part 2

Will Lyman shines as the legendary William Tell and Jeremy Clyde is memorable as Governor Gessler. The action and violence are pretty tame in this series which was typical for 80s TV. The theme is pure 80s awesomeness and I love it every second of it. Now 80s style is becoming cool again. Just look at Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Thor Ragnorok.

The 6 DVDs are housed in tray DVD case. The audio and video quality of the episodes on these DVDs vary on episodes. That is the only downside I find, and even that is minuscule! The DVD menus are easy to access.

I can not describe how much I love 80s television! Is it nostalgia? Or is it just the 80s was just awesome?! I don't know! Maybe a little of both. But I know I really enjoyed this series.

So if you love 80s action television or if want to see more about the legend of William Tell this is a really cool series. And 3 seasons for under 20 buck you can't go wrong there. Head over to www.MillCreekEnt.com or your local video provider and pick this one up today!
