Yes, Madam (1985) Blu-ray Review

A few years ago, Michelle Yeoh would have been a name most American film fans would not have known. But in 2022 she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Everything Everywhere all at Once.

Beyond winning an Oscar she was in some of the biggest film franchises in cinema. I am talking James Bond's Tomorrow Never Dies, Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the ten rings and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. She even became part of the Star Trek Universe when she starred in the TV series Star Trek Discovery.

But before she every came to America she made a name for herself in Hong Kong action films. Her first real breakout film was 1985's Yes Madam. 88 Films have restored this film and now released it on Deluxe Blu-ray!

Synopsis: Senior Police Inspector Ng (Michelle Yeoh) is assigned to work with Inspector Carrie Morris (Cynthia Rothrock) from Scotland Yard, to investigate the murder of an agent from the Commercial Crime Bureau of London, who was killed because of the evidence he has collected against a crime syndicate in Hong Kong.

Yes, Madam balances the violence and drama and the comedy perfectly to make this a really fun little Kung Fu action flick. And let's be honest Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock make a great combination. This will be a film you will defiantly want to revisit!

88 Films have transferred this Hong Kong action classic to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. It has been remastered in 2k from the original camera negative. There are count them 4 different audio options. 2.0 Cantonese Dual Mono with English Subtitles, 2.0 Alternate Cantonese Dual Mono with English Subtitles, 5.1 English Dub and an Export Version featuring the Classic English Dub.

This new 2k remaster really makes this film come to life. The colors are so vibrant and the flesh tones are perfect. The picture is crisp as a new 100 dollar bill. I didn't see any signs of damage to this print and there was no signs of digital artifacts. The audio is clean. But a tremendous looking transfer is not all this film has going for it! Take a look at the bonus features included on this Blu-ray!

* Audio Commentary by Frank Djeng
* A Team Player - Cynthia Rothrock on Yes, Madam
* Select Scene Commentary with Cynthia Rothrock and Frank Djeng
* Ladies First - Mang Hoi on Yes, Madam
* Archive Interview with Michelle Yeoh
* Archive Battling Babes Featurette
* Hong Kong Trailer

Now in addition to a beautifully remaster film and all these above bonuses, 88 Film made a reversible Blu-ray insert. When you receive the Blu-ray you get the American language version. But when you flip the insert. You get the Hong Kong Blu-ray insert version. I really enjoy the idea of two different types of artwork.

I grew up on English dubbed Godzilla and Kung Fu movies. So to have the bad English dubs added to this release makes the child in me leap for joy. This makes this release 1000 times better.

So if you love 80s Kung Fu movies 88 Films have released a Blu-ray you need in your collection. You can head over to Amazon and order your copy of Yes Madam today! Or you can read about 88 Films deluxe 4 Blu-ray disc set of Michelle Yeoh films In The Line of Duty I-IV.
