The Bloodhound (Blu-ray Review)

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Edgar Allan Poe's stories have been made in movies time after time. Probably one of the master of the macabre's most well known stories is The Fall of the House of Usher. That story was made once with Vincent Price. But now latest version was a 2020 release The Bloodhound by First-time feature director Patrick Picard.

Arrow Video is physical media collectors dream come true as they bring all versions of films to deluxe Blu-rays. Now The Bloodhound is getting it's time to shine on Blu-ray. Let's take a look at what is included on The Bloodhound Blu-ray.

Francis (Liam Aiken, A Series of Unfortunate Events) arrives to the home of his wealthy childhood friend, JP Luret (Joe Adler, The Maze Runner), who seems to be afflicted by a mysterious illness. Francis soon finds out that JP and his twin sister Vivan (Annalise Basso, Ouija: Origin of Evil) are the last surviving members of the Luret family. While the friends try to reconnect, strange things begin to occur. Francis finds himself in a downward spiral. Can he escape? You'll have to see the film to find out!

With the film run time of a mere 72 minutes. The story wastes no time getting to the nitty gritty. Liam Aiken and Joe Adler's chemistry together on screen is pretty good. Joe Adler is very creepy in the role of JP and Liam Aiken's Francis is so naive. This film is definition of slow burn horror.

This film does have some scary images, adult content and there is some adult language including some uses of the F bomb. So viewer beware.

Now for the Blu-ray release. The film is presented in widescreen format in 1080p. It is a beautiful transfer. But it should be as it is a 2020 release. But as always Arrow Video makes their releases something special by loading the Blu-ray with awesome bonus features, and The Bloodhound is no different.

* Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
* Brand new audio commentary by director Patrick Picard and editor David Scorca
* Four experimental short films by director Patrick Picard: bad dream, the muffled hammerfall in action, the mosaic code and wiggleworm
* On the Trail of The Bloodhound: Behind the Scenes of a Modern Chiller, exclusive 45-minute making-of featurette

While I would say The Bloodhound is not the best adaption of an Edgar Allan Poe story, it is a unique one. I think horror movie fans will be interested in this one. And the bonus features really amp up the cool factor of this release.

So if you are a horror movie hound, The Bloodhound is going to be one of those films you are going to want to add to your collection. Casual movie fans maybe not so much. Anyway you can head over to Amazon.com and pre-order your copy today.

Out of 4 Film reels (4 being the best) the Arrow Video Blu-ray release of The Bloodhound receives...
