Walking Tall (2004) {Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed by Jason S. Lockard

Dwayne Johnson has become one of the hottest stars in the  movie industry right now! But he made a name for himself as "The Rock", the most electrifying man in sports entertainment in the World Wrestling Federation. He was so charismatic the "millions" were drawn to him. But sometimes that seem like a lifetime ago. He is now a Hollywood star, but it is interesting to look back to his humble beginnings in film! You could still see how good he was going to be once he got some work under his belt!

MVD Marquee Collection have released one of those early Dwayne Johnson movies, for all "Rock" fans. The film is Walking Tall based on the true story is now available on Blu-ray from MVD Entertainment Group.
The film follows Chris Vaughn (Johnson), a retired U.S. Special Forces soldier who returns to his hometown to start life after the military. When he enters the town he finds the lumber mill has been closed. Now the town is a haven for crime, drugs and violence all thanks to his wealthy high school rival, Jay Hamilton, played expertly by Neal McDonough (Legends of Tomorrow). After a violent run-in with Hamilton's men at the casino Chris decides to run for sheriff and clean up the town with help of his friend Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville).

The film presented on this Blu-ray looks and sounds pretty awesome on this blu-ray. The picture is presented in 2:35:1 widescreen and the 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. This is awesome, but than there is 2 audio commentaries one with the director and crew and one with Dwayne Johnson himself. There is a featurette entitled "Fight the good fight", Deleted scenes, bloopers, Alternate ending, a photo gallery and the original theatrical trailer.

This film gets a bad wrap by many people in my opinion. Is it perfect? No! But the story moves along fast, you barely have time to get bored till the next action scene! The fight scenes are very believable, Dwayne holds this film on his back very well! Neal McDonough is perfect as the slimy Hamilton, even Johnny Knoxville is the perfect comic foil for this intense film. This is a 'Rock' solid action film.

I would suggest this film for anyone who enjoys a good action film, but note this is not for the young ones. There is a lot of violence, some profanity, sexual content in and out of a strip club, no nudity though.

So if you love Dwayne Johnson this is a must add to your collection and the MVD Marquee Collection Blu-ray is a really good way to do it! So head over to Amazon.com or your local Blu-ray provider and pick up a copy today!
