Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) {Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed by Jason S. Lockard

In the 1980s films were just a little out there! Scifi horror comedies were all the rage. And those low budget films, 80s kids just loved. One such film that holds an special place in the hearts of those kids is Killer Klowns from Outer Space. This film has been released before but now Arrow Films is giving this film the Blu-ray release it totally deserves.

The film follows two teenagers Mike and Debbie who are at a sort of look out point, when see a comet crash and go out exploring it. What actually descends is a circus tent like spaceship. The two investigate and find psychotic killer clown creatures from another world. Their purpose is to eliminate mankind turning them into cotton candy. It's up to the teens of the town to fight back!

The film is typical cheesy 80s sci-fi / comedy / horror fun. The film is presented in 1080p high definition and has a newly remastered stereo 2.0 and 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio options and also optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. This film looks and sounds amazing!

Now a stunning looking copy of the film is good for most film collectors, but Arrow Films is not satisfied with a bare bones Blu-ray experience! So they jammed this Blu-ray with the following special features:

• Archive audio commentary with the writers, producers and directors the Chiodo Brothers
• Let the Show Begin! Anatomy of a Killer Theme Song – an all-new interview with the original members of the American punk band, The Dickies
• The Chiodos Walk Among Us: Adventures in Super 8 Filmmaking – all-new documentary highlighting the making of the Chiodo Brothers childhood films, from the giant monster epics made in their basement to their experiments in college
• New HD transfers of the complete collection of the Chiodo Brothers 8mm and Super 8 films, including Land of Terror, Free Inside, Beast from the Egg, and more!
• Tales of Tobacco – an interview with star Grant Cramer
• Debbie’s Big Night – an interview with star Suzanne Snyder
• Bringing Life to These Things – a tour of Chiodo Bros. Productions
• The Making of Killer Klowns – archive production featurette
• Visual Effects with Gene Warren Jr. – archive interview with co-writer/producer Charles Chiodo and visual effects supervisor Gene Warren Jr.
• Kreating Klowns – archive interview with Charles Chiodo and creature fabricator Dwight Roberts
• Komposing Klowns – archive interview with composer John Massari
• Klown Auditions
• Deleted Scenes with filmmaker’s audio commentary
• Bloopers
• Image Galleries
• Original Theatrical Trailer

Now the film is not Citizen Kane. It's not the great American western. It is just a fun escapism film. And as good as the film looks in HD the real reason this is a must own is the manifold bonus features! Thank you Arrow Films for going above and beyond my expectations for this release!

So if your a fan of 80s films like I am this is an absolute must add to your Blu-ray collection! Head over to www.Amazon.com or your local Blu-ray provider today and get a copy for yourself!
