Automan (1983-84) {DVD Review}

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

The original Tron holds a very special place in the hearts of people even to this day. That's because it is just so ultra cool! Well ABC tried to cash in on the Tron fandom and made the series Automan. Now we all can relive the campy 80s goodness that was Automan thank to the folks at Shout Factory!

Automan follows the adventures of a police officer and computer programmer named Walter Nebicher (played perfectly by Desi Arnaz, Jr.), who has created an artificially intelligent crime fighting program that generated a hologram (Chuck Wagner) able to leave the computer world at night and fight crime.

The 4 disc dvd set give us all 13 episodes including the 75 minute pilot movie!
1 "Automan"
2 "Staying Alive While Running a High Flashdance Fever"
3 "The Great Pretender"
4 "Ships in the Night"
5 "Unreasonable Facsimile"
6 "Flashes and Ashes"
7 "The Biggest Game in Town"
8 "Renegade Run"
9 "Murder MTV"
10 "Murder, Take One"
11 "Zippers"
12 "Death by Design"
13 "Club Ten"

The video is presented in 1.33.1 full frame, just as it should be. The audio is on Dolby Digital 2.0. And the bonus features include 2 feaurettes "Calling Automan" and "The Story Of Automan", some cast and crew biographies, a still gallery of Automan collectibles, a still gallery of promo materials, a trailer for Manimal.

I enjoyed this series! There is a sense of innocence and nostalgia that brought the enjoyment level up for me. I highly recommend Automan for fans of Tron special effects or for fans of campy TV. This is campy at it's best! Head over to www.Amazon.com!
